Education
Investment in Public Education
I am committed to investing in public education to ensure every child in Michigan has access to quality education. By increasing funding for public schools, we can reduce class sizes, provide up-to-date learning materials, and ensure fair wages for teachers and school-related personnel. Our goal is to create an environment where students can thrive academically and personally.
Early Childhood Education
Early childhood education is crucial for our youngest learners. I support expanding access to affordable, high-quality programs to ensure every child enters kindergarten ready to succeed. By investing in early education, we can close achievement gaps and set children on a path to lifelong success. I advocate for universal preschool, ensuring every preschool-aged child in Michigan has access to free, high-quality education, providing a strong foundation for future academic success.
College Affordability, Access, and Readiness
Higher education should be accessible and affordable for all. I will work to reduce the financial barriers to college by supporting increased funding for scholarships, grants, and loan forgiveness programs. Additionally, I will advocate for programs that prepare students for college, including mentoring, tutoring, and college readiness initiatives.
School Infrastructure and Safety
Our students deserve to learn in safe, modern, and well-maintained facilities. I will prioritize funding for school infrastructure projects to repair and upgrade our aging school buildings. Ensuring the safety of our students is paramount, and I will support measures to enhance school security and emergency preparedness.
Expansion of Career and Technical Education and Training
Not every student follows the same path, and we must provide diverse opportunities for success. I am committed to expanding career and technical education (CTE) programs that equip students with the skills needed for high-demand jobs. By partnering with local industries and businesses, we can create training programs that align with the needs of our economy and provide pathways to good-paying careers.
Environment
Pfas Contamination:
I will advocate for comprehensive testing and cleanup of PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, man-made chemicals with some being carcinogenic) contamination in Michigan's water systems. I will push for stricter regulations on industrial discharges, increased funding for remediation projects and support for affected communities to ensure safe and clean drinking water for all residents.
Clean Water:
I will champion initiatives to protect Michigan's freshwater resources, including the Great Lakes. I will promote investments in modernizing water infrastructure, enhancing wastewater treatment facilities, and safeguarding natural water sources from pollutants and over-extraction. I will support policies that prioritize equitable access to clean water for every community. Additionally, I will advocate to pass Michigan's first proposal to set septic tank standards which will ensure a reduction in septic tank failures, which pose a risk to our waterways and groundwater.
Romulus Deep Injection Site:
I will oppose the expansion of hazardous waste injection wells at the Romulus Deep Injection Site. I will advocate for stringent oversight, transparency, and community involvement in decision-making processes related to hazardous waste management. I will work towards the eventual closure of the site to protect local groundwater and public health.
Clean Water Polluter Pay:
Polluters Should Pay for Their Contamination, Not Taxpayers. Michigan has over 27,000 contaminated sites, burdening taxpayers and threatening the health of our land, Great Lakes, water, and air. Current laws provide little accountability for polluters, leaving cleanup costs to taxpayers. I support the Michigan LCV Polluter Pay Legislation to ensure companies responsible for contamination cover cleanup costs. This will protect Michiganders, preserve our natural resources, and return contaminated sites to productive use or natural health.
Algae Bloom:
I will support the research and remediation of harmful algae blooms in Michigan's water bodies. I will advocate for measures to reduce agricultural runoff and coordinate with rural organizations to minimize the impact on farmers. I will enhance monitoring and research on algae blooms and promote sustainable farming practices by investing in affordable alternatives for both corporate and local farmers. Additionally, I will encourage community awareness and involvement in mitigating the effects of algae blooms on local ecosystems and public health.
Infrastructure
Rebuilding and Modernizing Roads and Bridges
I will support investing in the modernization of Michigan's roads and bridges, prioritizing sustainable materials and methods to ensure safety, reduce environmental impact, minimize congestion, and enhance infrastructure resilience.
Investing in Public Transportation
I will support the development of Michigan’s public transportation systems to provide accessible, reliable, and eco-friendly alternatives. By supporting investments in electric buses, commuter rail services, and improved transit routes, we aim to reduce carbon emissions, alleviate traffic congestion, and make transportation more equitable for all residents.
Enhancing Water and Sewer Systems
I will fight for investments in Michigan’s water and sewer infrastructure to ensure clean and safe water for all communities. This priority will focus on replacing outdated pipes, preventing contamination.
Sustainable Energy Infrastructure
I will be an ally in the transition to renewable energy sources by investing in solar, wind, and other sustainable energy infrastructure. I support modernizing infrastructure that incentivizes energy efficiency, reduces greenhouse gas emissions, and creates green jobs. My campaign focuses on making Michigan a leader in sustainable energy infrastructure.
Supporting Housing and Urban Development
I will support opening up more housing in Michigan by streamlining regulatory processes and advocating for zoning laws to encourage responsible development. This includes fighting for higher-density housing near transit hubs, promoting mixed-use developments, and support incentives for affordable housing. I will encourage investment in infrastructure and utilities to accommodate growth and improve accessibility. By fostering public-private collaboration and inclusive policies, I will ensure all Michigan residents have access to safe, affordable housing.
Healthcare
Lowering Prescription Drug Costs
I am committed to making prescription medications more affordable for all Michigan residents. By advocating for transparent pricing, supporting bulk purchasing programs, and promoting generic alternatives, we can significantly lower the cost of essential drugs, ensuring that no one has to choose between their health and financial stability.
Strengthening Mental Health Services
I will work to increase funding for mental health services, expand access to care, and eliminate the stigma surrounding mental health issues. This includes integrating mental health services into primary care and improving crisis response systems to ensure everyone receives the support they need.
Expanding Access to Reproductive Freedoms
I firmly believe in protecting the right to choose and ensuring comprehensive reproductive healthcare is accessible to all. This includes safeguarding access to contraception, family planning services, and safe, legal abortion. I will fight against any legislation that seeks to undermine these fundamental rights.
Enhancing Senior Care
Our seniors deserve the best care possible. I will push for policies that improve access to affordable healthcare, enhance in-home care services, and provide better support for caregivers. By addressing the unique needs of our aging population, we can ensure they live with dignity and respect. Additionally, I support initiatives that enable seniors to age in place, allowing them to remain in their homes and communities with the necessary services and support.
Capping the Cost of Insulin
Insulin is a lifesaving medication, and its cost should not be a burden on individuals and families. I support capping the price of insulin to make it affordable for everyone, ensuring that no one has to go without this essential drug.
Addressing Health Disparities
Health disparities based on race, income, and geography are unacceptable. I will work to eliminate these inequities by expanding access to quality healthcare, addressing social determinants of health, and ensuring that underserved communities receive the resources and support they need to thrive.
Reducing Community Violence by Implementing Sensible Gun Laws
Gun violence is a public health issue that requires immediate attention. I support sensible gun laws that protect public health, including universal background checks, red flag laws, and restrictions on assault weapons. By reducing access to firearms for those who pose a risk to themselves or others, we can create safer communities for everyone.
